Congratulations to Fall 2018 Sigma Scholarship Recipients!
Graduate Scholarship:
Katherine Sampson is a current graduate student at Oklahoma Baptist University and Sigma member Beta Delta Chapter-at-Large, inducted in 2018. Her undergraduate degree is from East Central University. She is a member of Association of Women’s Health & Neonatal Nurses (AWOHNN) and a staff nurse at Chickasaw Nation. Her focus in graduate school is on nursing education. Her scholarly submission for the scholarship application addressed application of concept mapping and teaching undergraduate students to write SMART objectives as they formulate nutritional teaching plans for breastfeeding mothers. Congratulations Katherine!
Undergraduate Scholarships:
Congratulations to Kia McCollum, one of two Sigma, Beta Delta Chapter-at-Large, undergraduate scholarship recipients for Fall, 2018!
Kia is a Sigma, Sigma Beta Delta Chapter-at-Large member, a senior nursing student, and Student Nurses’ Association (SNA) president at the University of Oklahoma College of Nursing, Lawton campus. Kia is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and also earned an associate degree from Cameron University, Summa Cum Laude. She is the recipient several other scholarship awards and “Miss Lawton” 2010. Kia actively volunteers in local community organizations and has been very involved in community events supporting many different organizations. She plans to work in emergency department upon graduation and eventually would like to become a member of an organ transplant team.
Congratulations to Mackenzie Palmer who was selected as an undergraduate scholarship recipient in Fall, 2018 from Sigma, Beta Delta Chapter-at-Large!
MacKenzie is a nursing student at Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU) and an active member of the OBU Student Nurses’ Association and the Blood Drive Coordinator for the association during the past three years. Mackenzie is a Student Nurse Mentor through OBU Student Success Center, tutoring underclassmen in their nursing coursework and exam preparation. Mackenzie is also a member of Omicron, Delta Kappa national leadership honor society. She has received multiple scholarships and honors for academic achievement while at OBU.
Mackenzie volunteers for several organizations including for Integris Bass Hospital in Enid for the past six years. Her career goal after graduation is to gain experience in ICU and L& D units then move overseas to serve women in Niger, Africa at Kollo Birth Clinic. Faculty recommendations for Mackenzie describe her as an “exemplary student who clearly demonstrates the leadership values of Sigma with strong potential to advance scholarship in the future.”
