Apply for a nursing scholarship! Sigma offers scholarship funds to support nursing student education for undergraduate and graduate students each fall and spring. Thanks to a generous donation by the family of the late Dr. Francene Weatherby to honor the memory of longtime Oklahoma nurse educator (beginning in spring 2020 and each spring thereafter), one graduate scholarship is given in her name. Eligibility criteria for each scholarship is outlined below.

Scholarships are awarded at Sigma meetings. Application deadlines: March 1st* (spring); October 1st (fall)

Application Eligibility
Graduate Scholarship and Weatherby Memorial Graduate Scholarship in Nursing Education:

  1. Applicants must be active Sigma Theta Tau International Beta Delta Chapter-At-Large members.
  2. Applicants must be a graduate student currently enrolled in a nursing graduate program
    • Weatherby Memorial Scholarship applicants must be in nursing education (only awarded in spring)
    • Doctoral degree students must be in a nursing or related program
  3. Complete the Graduate Student Scholarship Application and email all required documents listed on the application to the address below.
  4. Two graduate scholarships are available each Spring and Fall, $1000 each. Weatherby Memorial Scholarship is one of the two Spring scholarships.

Undergraduate Scholarships:
  1. Applicants must attend and be currently enrolled in one of the Beta Delta Chapter-At-Large member schools. Member schools as of April 2021 include:
    • The University of Oklahoma Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing
    • Oklahoma City University Kramer School of Nursing
    • University of Central Oklahoma
    • Oklahoma Baptist University
    • Southern Nazarene University
    • Southwestern Oklahoma State University
    • Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
  2. Complete the Undergraduate Scholarship Application and email all required documents listed on the application.
  3. *Special Requirements for all Spring Applicants
    • Must be members of Sigma (Sigma # needed)
    • Must be present to receive the award at a Sigma Program.
  4. One undergraduate scholarship is available for spring and fall each year, $1,000 each.

*Scholarships will be awarded semi-annually based on fund availability.
*Applicants must be present to receive the award at either the Fall (or Spring) Induction Ceremony or at the Fall or Spring Meeting relative to the season of the award.

Sigma Theta Tau offers the Edith Anderson Membership Subsidy.

The Edith Anderson Membership Subsidy is used by Sigma to underwrite up to 75 percent of the annual Sigma membership fees of those requiring financial assistance. Applications are accepted beginning July 1.

Stipends are furnished on a confidential basis. A maximum of US $10,000 will be allocated to the program each year, and no more than 10 members of a chapter or an at-Large chapter may benefit from the initiative. Policies governing the subsidies are completely at the discretion of the Sigma Foundation for Nursing Board of Directors.

Beneficiaries of this program may include but are not limited to:

  • Undergraduate and graduate students invited to join Sigma who attest that they do not have the means to pay their international/chapter induction or membership fees in their entirety. (This does not include charges for induction dinners, membership keys, honor cords, or other non-dues assessments.)
  • New or existing Sigma members residing outside of the United States in countries designated as middle or low-income by the World Bank who find it difficult if not impossible to fulfill their membership obligations.
  • Members undergoing temporary financial hardships who require assistance in order to continue their active membership.

All subsidy recipients are encouraged to contribute to the Edith Anderson Membership Subsidy, through the Sigma Foundation for Nursing, when their circumstances allow.

Undergraduate Scholarship Recipient, Spring 2024
London Roberts, BSN student

London is a student currently pursuing a BSN degree from Oklahoma Baptist University and will be graduating in May 2024. She has been an officer in her school’s Student Nurses’ Association and has been involved in many community outreach events through her social club. London plans to work as a critical care nurse and pursue an advanced practice degree.

Gyuseok Gyeong, BSN student

Gyuseok is currently pursuing a BSN degree from Oklahoma City University with plans to graduate in May 2024.

Graduate Scholarships, Spring 2024

Angela Roughley, RN, MSN student

Angela received her ADN from the University of Arkansas and her BSN from Aspen University. She is currently pursuing an MSN in Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and plans to graduate in the Fall of 2025. She is a clinical coordinator and clinical instructor at Francis Tuttle Technology Center and has a clinical background in intensive care nursing. Angela has also been recognized by the National Society of Leadership and Success. Congratulations Angela!

Angela Roughley, RN, MSN student

Cody received his BSN and his Master’s in Nursing Education from the University of Central Oklahoma. He is currently pursuing a DNP in Pediatric Primary Care from the University of South Alabama with plans to graduate in Fall 2026. Kami Kelly, LPN - BSN student

Kami is an LPN that is currently pursuing a BSN degree from the University of Oklahoma with plans to graduate in May 2023. Kami participates in as many virtual events as she can, focusing especially on those activities related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. She and her family volunteer at the City Rescue Mission in downtown Oklahoma City. She was previously recognized in her LPN program as being top of her class. She would eventually like to teach in an LPN program and hopes to continue her education in the future with a master’s degree. Congratulations Kami!

Graduate Scholarships, Fall 2022
Narinthip Anuntakulnthee, MSN, RN, PhD student

Narinthip received her BSN and MSN degrees from Mahidol University, Thailand, and is currently pursuing her PhD in Nursing from Oklahoma City University. She plans to graduate in May 2024. She is currently a nursing instructor for the Department of Family Nursing and Midwifery, Chulabhorn Royal Academy. Narinthip has been teaching midwifery in Thailand for seven years and plans to develop curriculum in nursing programs in Thailand upon graduation. She also plans to establish scholarship funds for nursing students, especially those who want to pursue graduate degrees and are willing to be nursing instructors. She intends to develop teaching using simulation-based learning. She has worked with the Student Nurses’ Association of Thailand and helped bring Thai nursing students into the International Council of Nurses congress last year, thus working to develop the nursing profession within Thailand and internationally. Narinthip’s dissertation topic is on the experience of midwives in caring for pregnant adolescents in central Thailand. Congratulations Narinthip!

Rachael Kleckner, MSN, RN, DNP student

Rachael received her BSN and MSN degrees from Oklahoma City University and is currently pursuing her DNP from Oklahoma City University as well as Nurse Practitioner from Maryville University concurrently. She plans to graduate in 2023 with her DNP. She works full time as a critical care travel nurse and also is a clinical and didactic adjunct for several nursing programs. Her goal is to reduce disparities faced within the LGBTQ+ community through clinical practice and education in rural Oklahoma. She especially loves to work with pre-licensure nursing students and enjoys developing innovative teaching pedagogies. Congratulations Rachael!

Undergraduate Scholarship Recipients, Fall 2022

Mikel Kendrick, BSN student

Mikel is pursuing a BSN degree from Oklahoma City University with plans to graduate in May 2023. He is the membership director for Student Nurses’ Association and is the Vice President for Black Students Nursing Association. He recently presented research at the Oklahoma Nurses’ Association Conference in 2022. He has been active in campus life including as a member of the President Leadership Class and as president of the Interfaith Organization. He also participated in the Big XII Conference on Black Student Government. Mikel volunteers through numerous community organizations including the Regional Food Bank. After graduation, he hopes to work in cardiovascular critical care, ultimately pursuing a DNP with a focus in Adult Gerontology Acute Care. Congratulations Mikel!

Graduate Scholarships, Fall 2021

Monica Bowie MSN, RN, DNP Student
Monica received her ADN from Oklahoma State University- OKC, her BSN from Southern Nazarene University, and her MSN from Oklahoma Wesleyan University. She is currently pursuing a DNP from Oklahoma Wesleyan University and plans to graduate in 2023. She is currently a nursing faculty at Redlands Community College and a House Supervisor at Integris Portland Avenue. Monica is a member of Sigma, ANA/ONA, and ONS. Congratulations Monica!

Ashley Wilson BSN, RN, DNP Student

Ashley is pursuing her FNP and DNP from Maryville University and plans to graduate in 2022. Her DNP project is Hypertension Control Via Diet in an Underserved Community. She received her BSN from University of Central Oklahoma. She has worked at Integris Baptist Medical Center and is currently the Clinical Coordinator for UCO. Once she completes her DNP, she is hoping to transition to a full-time faculty position at UCO. Ashley is a member of Sigma and the Association of Oklahoma Nurse Practitioners. Congratulations Ashley!


Undergraduate Scholarship Recipients, Fall 2021


Audrey Branham
Audrey is a student at Oklahoma Baptist University and plans to graduate in May 2023. She is an Honors Student and recently completed a study on the Anthropology of Pregnancy and Birth Care. She is also the class representative for Student Nurses’ Association, a member of the Honors Leadership Council, and an academic mentor in the Student Success Center. Audrey participated in a month-long study abroad in Quito, Ecuador. After graduation she plans to become a Certified Nurse Midwife and work with local pregnancy crisis care. Congratulations Audrey!

Abigail MacIvor

Abigail is a student in the University of Central Oklahoma’s pilot Fast Track Nursing Program and plans to graduate December 2021. She has volunteered to coordinate several community events for various groups including United Way. She also volunteers by playing piano at her grandmother’s long-term assisted residence. She has served in informal leadership with her cohort of nursing students. Abigail plans to work either in surgery or ICU after graduation with a goal of continuing her education at some point. Congratulations Abigail!

Olivia Parent

Olivia is a student at Oklahoma Baptist University and plans to graduate in May 2022. She has participated in several philanthropic community events through her social club and is a student representative for the School of Nursing’s Academic Affairs Committee. Olivia plans to work as a critical care nurse and to pursue an advanced practice degree. She ultimately plans to obtain her doctorate and teach nursing students. Congratulations Olivia!

Graduate Scholarship:

Monica Bowie, RN, BSN was awarded a graduate nursing scholarship for fall 2019. Monica is a Sigma Beta Delta at-Large Chapter member, inducted in 2018. She is a graduate student at Oklahoma Wesleyan University currently focusing on nursing education. Monica earned a bachelor’s degree is from Southern Nazarene University and an associate’s degree in nursing from OSU-OKC. Ms. Bowie works as house supervisor at Integris Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City, and a member of the Oncology Nursing Society and Oklahoma Nurse’s Association. Her future career goal is to become a nurse educator. Congratulations Monica!


Undergraduate Scholarships:

Congratulations to Peyton Theado, an undergraduate scholarship recipient in Fall, 2019. Peyton is a student at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU). She is on the Dean’s List and has received various scholarships awards while at SWOSU. When she graduates in May 2020, Peyton plans to work in the emergency room and continue her nursing education. Peyton is a member and treasurer of the Nurse Christian Fellowship and SWOSU Nursing Student Association. She also is involved in College Rodeo and has volunteers for several community organizations.

Congratulations to Jessica Ray, one of two Sigma, Beta Delta at-Large Chapter, undergraduate scholarship recipients for Fall, 2019! Jessica is a Sigma, Beta Delta at-Large Chapter member, and a senior nursing student at University of Central Oklahoma. Jessica will be graduating in December 2019. She is a member of the Student Nurses’ Association (SNA) and has volunteered at the Oklahoma Food bank with the Medical Reserve Corps. Jessica has been an active community volunteer. She aspires to become a pediatric nurse after graduation.

Graduate Scholarship:


Katherine Sampson is a current graduate student at Oklahoma Baptist University and Sigma member Beta Delta Chapter-at-Large, inducted in 2018. Her undergraduate degree is from East Central University. She is a member of Association of Women’s Health & Neonatal Nurses (AWOHNN) and a staff nurse at Chickasaw Nation. Her focus in graduate school is on nursing education. Her scholarly submission for the scholarship application addressed application of concept mapping and teaching undergraduate students to write SMART objectives as they formulate nutritional teaching plans for breastfeeding mothers. Congratulations Katherine!


Undergraduate Scholarships:

Congratulations to Kia McCollum, one of two Sigma, Beta Delta Chapter-at-Large, undergraduate scholarship recipients for Fall, 2018!
Kia is a Sigma, Sigma Beta Delta Chapter-at-Large member, a senior nursing student, and Student Nurses’ Association (SNA) president at the University of Oklahoma College of Nursing, Lawton campus. Kia is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and also earned an associate degree from Cameron University, Summa Cum Laude. She is the recipient several other scholarship awards and “Miss Lawton” 2010. Kia actively volunteers in local community organizations and has been very involved in community events supporting many different organizations. She plans to work in emergency department upon graduation and eventually would like to become a member of an organ transplant team.


Congratulations to Mackenzie Palmer who was selected as an undergraduate scholarship recipient in Fall, 2018 from Sigma, Beta Delta Chapter-at-Large!

MacKenzie is a nursing student at Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU) and an active member of the OBU Student Nurses’ Association and the Blood Drive Coordinator for the association during the past three years. Mackenzie is a Student Nurse Mentor through OBU Student Success Center, tutoring underclassmen in their nursing coursework and exam preparation. Mackenzie is also a member of Omicron, Delta Kappa national leadership honor society. She has received multiple scholarships and honors for academic achievement while at OBU.

Mackenzie volunteers for several organizations including for Integris Bass Hospital in Enid for the past six years. Her career goal after graduation is to gain experience in ICU and L& D units then move overseas to serve women in Niger, Africa at Kollo Birth Clinic. Faculty recommendations for Mackenzie describe her as an “exemplary student who clearly demonstrates the leadership values of Sigma with strong potential to advance scholarship in the future.”
