Beta Delta at-Large Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International will be giving out annual Excellence Awards in the following categories: Education, Clinical Practice, Research, Leadership, and Community Services. The goal of these awards are to highlight exceptional achievements that are congruent with Sigma’s mission, vision and values.
Nominee Eligibility
- Current Beta Delta at-Large Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International member
- If you are a nominee, you may not nominate another person or provide a reference for another nominee in the same category within the sameyear.
- Be available to attend a Beta Delta at-Large event
Nominator Eligibility
- Current Beta Delta at-Large Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International member
- If you nominate someone, you may not accept a nomination for yourself in the same category within the same year.
Excellence Awards
The Beta Delta at-Large Chapter Excellence Awards seeks demonstration of exemplary practice by nurses who achieve significant impact in one of five categories: Education, Clinical Practice, Research, Leadership and Community Service. Nominations should describe the contributions and outcomes achieved.
Nominators should be specific and give concrete examples of how the nominee meets the criteria for the category in which they are nominated. Applications should include clear and measurable qualitative and/or quantitative positive impacts that the nominee has made in their excellence area.
Submission of Materials - Completed Application must be submitted by January 15th
The following materials are required for a complete nomination and must be emailed at the same time by the nominator. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

3. Submit nominee’s current curriculum vitae or resume.
Category: Excellence in Education Criteria:
1. Demonstrates excellence in teaching
2. Creates and/or uses innovative teaching/learning methods
3. Clarifies, refines, and/or expands the knowledge base of nursing
4. Promotes a theory/research base for nursing curricula and nursing practice
5. Influences scholarly development in nursing education, practice, and/or research through effects of teaching
6. Impacts professional nursing practice through excellence of teaching
Category: Excellence in Clinical Service Criteria:
1. Demonstrates compassionate, hands-on-care
2. Utilizes evidence-based care at the bedside
3. Demonstrates critical thinking and life-long learning
4. Exhibits exemplary partnerships with peers and people
5. Acts as an inspiration to peers, patients, and families
6. Promotes the importance of integrated competency to individualize care
Category: Excellence in Research Criteria:
1. Conducts distinguished research in nursing
2. Communicates nursing research findings
3. Writes scholarly works related to nursing theory and/or nursing research
4. Gives evidence of a history of nursing research activities
5. Promotes evidence-based practice (EBP)
6. Served as a principal or co-investigator of a completed study or project in a healthcare or educational healthcare setting within last two years
Category: Excellence in Leadership Criteria:
1. Impacts leadership in nursing through visionary and innovative approaches
2. Creates environment enhancing the nurse’s image and nursing profession
3. Participates in the development of nursing leaders and leadership
4. Promotes collaborative practice with an interprofessional team
5. Influences the advancement of healthcare practices within a clinical setting
6. Improves health outcomes through leadership and enactment of EBP
Category: Excellence in Community Service Criteria:
1. Takes leadership role in community organization making significant professional or voluntary contributions that improve the profession or patient care in Oklahoma
2. Contributes significantly through volunteer efforts in the community, local or state health care, educational, political, or nursing organizations
3. Takes part in outreach programs that enrich the lives of individuals and families
4. Develops innovative prevention/intervention program or provides outstanding service as a volunteer to an organization that has a focused interest in nursing
5. Works collaboratively toward a common goal that benefits a patient/patient population or the profession
6. Encourages team cohesiveness and contributes to the healthcare team
Award winners will be recognized at a Beta Delta at-Large event. Award winners must be able to attend an event to receive the award.
Please review the information and click the link for the application form. Criteria for each category are explained. In addition to the application form, you will need to submit the nominee's most recent CV or resume.
A committee of experts in each category will select top nominees. Top nominees will be asked to write a self-evaluation regarding award criteria at a later date. Committees will select award winners based on nominees’ answers to the self-evaluation.
All nominees remain eligible to submit nominations for all categories.
